5th December 2025 (Kinshasa, DR Congo)The Forum of Parliaments of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) commends the signing of the Peace Agreement between Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Republic of Rwanda on 4th December 2025, by the President of the DRC, Felix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame aimed at ending the long-running conflict in the eastern DRC at a Summit hosted by US President Donald Trump.

From the onset, the FP-ICGLR considers the signing of the peace deal between the head of states of the DRC and Rwanda, as witnessed by President Donald Trump as an imperative step in the long, arduous and painful search for sustainable peace and stability in the eastern DRC. As an interparliamentary regional entity championing peace, stability and development, the FP-ICGLR note such achievements with sense of courage, optimism and remains hopeful for a fruitful outcome. Furthermore, we pay special tribute to roles played by African Union (AU), East African Community and Southern African Development Community (SADC) in laying foundations for this agreement.

In view of the foregoing, the FP-ICGLR encourages both sides to implement the deal in good faith and with a collective resolve to have lasting peace in the eastern DRC and respect for territorial integrity for both countries. Finally, the FP-ICGLR stands ready to support this agreement by seeing it legislated and localized for its sustainability.
